When i am creating  a website i always like to see what other people are doing on the web. I often use twitter and smashing magazine for inspiration and design ideas. There are thousands of websites big and small which are there for inspiration. Even we sometimes offers inspirational design posts.

I am not sure how other designs do it but i find, this is the best way to do it. When a client gives me a idea of what they need, i will often have a good idea on how i will do it. When i have this i go online and look at some of the free resources out there to give me more ideas on how to create a better and more beneficial website for my clients.

I think to often people will look at other designers sites and pick and choose elements they will re use/copy on to there new website. The problem with this is that they are not generating new design but just reusing some ones idea. But if they take their idea and then adept it in a new way or find a different ways to use it then that will lead to a better and more usable website.

Websites such as http://boagworld.com/ and http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ are very good for ideas and new was to look at design and the Internet.

So it all comes down to how you adapt what you see on the web and change it in to the way to suit your  needs. I find the new Windows Snipping tools is a great way to rember what you liked from web sites you have came across.
